What Do I Need To Think About Before Moving Office?

Office-Move

Businesses move offices all the time. Sometimes, it’s because they’re growing and simply need more space. Or they may be downsizing because of hybrid working and more people working from home (WFH). Or it may be driven by a need to be located in a different part of the country or preferable lease terms in a different office.

Whatever the reason, it’s not just about prepping and refurbishing your workspace for a new start. You also need to think about what technology you have and whether it’s fit for purpose. It may be that you have too much tech — including redundant gadgets and redundant software licences — and could save money by streamlining your IT estate. Or it may be that you need to revamp your tech for your new surroundings.

Whatever your reasons, Techsolve can help manage your office move or revamp, and find the best technology solutions available to suit your business.

  • What IT considerations should I factor in if we’re upsizing, downsizing, relocating or moving to a new office?
    • The first thing you need to do is carry out an IT audit to find out exactly what IT hardware, software and peripherals you already have. The objective is to identify inefficiencies, gaps and errors in your current IT systems in line with the strategic goals of your business.
  • How expensive will it be to upgrade my tech systems?
    • It’s impossible to say how expensive it will be to upgrade your system without carrying out a full IT audit that is aligned with your business goals. However, we understand the importance of IT infrastructure both in terms of meeting business objectives and delivering a cost-effective return on investment (ROI). Since we are not tied to any supplier, we are able to go to the market to secure the most competitive solutions available.
  • We rent our office and I’ve been told I need a ‘wayleave’ before work can be done installing a new internet connection. What is a wayleave?
    • A wayleave is a contractual agreement between a landowner or landlord and a telecommunications provider, where the landowner grants the network provider a licence with the right to access land and/or property, to install and/or maintain electronic communications apparatus.
  • What technology do I need for my office?
    • When it comes to the implementation of IT Infrastructure each location is different, But there are some core areas — that cover both traditional IT and cloud computing — that need to be considered including:
      • Cabling and wiring, including phone lines
      • Setting-up wireless access points (often referred to as ‘Wi-Fi routers’) for full Wi-Fi internet coverage in your office
      • Installing software including operating systems, business applications, and anti-viruses
      • Installing hardware components including computers, servers, and data centres
      • Network devices
      • Cybersecurity
      • Data management and compliance
      • Telephony and VoIP communication systems
  • Some of our people WFH full time. Some are hybrid workers. And some work in the office from Monday to Friday. What’s the best IT setup to cater for all of our needs?
    • The world of work has definitely changed. This means IT has to be flexible and adaptable. Our IT solutions support reliable, secure, and cost-effective remote working solutions that are right for your business. This includes:
      • IT support for remote workers
      • Cloud software consultancy and management
      • Hybrid solutions for office-based and those WFH
      • VoIP and video calling software setup
      • Cybersecurity auditing and monitoring

Once we have carried out a full IT audit — and discussed your business goals — we will be able to provide a proposal to meet your IT needs.

  • We’re thinking of refurbishing our office. What can you do to help?
    • If you’re thinking of refurbishing your office to create more collaborative spaces, we have the experience to provide dynamic and flexible technology solutions within workspaces. We recently helped in the refurbishment of an office in central London for Altair Media where ‘frictionless AV solutions’ were key. “The guys at Techsolve got involved right at the beginning to make sure that all the tech that we had in the office was best in class, simple and efficient, and as cutting edge as possible. We didn’t really want any wires.  We didn’t want any cables. We wanted everything in the cloud. And we wanted it to be seamless so that when clients, media owners and advertisers come to our offices, people could just come in, sync their tech and present really easily.” Pete Best, Director at Altair.
